The Spark Behind the Inferno: How We Designed Our First Paddle
Share
When we started Snap Paddles, we didn’t just want to release another "black-on-black" carbon fiber paddle that blended into the background. We wanted our first release to be a statement.
Getting to the final design of The Inferno wasn't a straight line. In fact, there were about a half-dozen solid concepts on the table. We had everything from minimalist geometrics to bold abstract patterns. But the real "aha" moment happened in the lab, not on the drawing board.
From Tech to Texture
The turning point was when we began testing the red Aramid weave for the paddle surface. As soon as we saw that deep, textured burgundy material, the energy in the room shifted. It didn't just look high-end; it looked dangerous. It looked like heat.
The team immediately resonated with the concept of fire, but we knew we couldn't just do "plain jane" flames. We’ve all seen the generic fire graphics from the 90s, and that wasn't us. We wanted something more intense, more calculated. That’s when the concept evolved from a simple flame to The Inferno.

The Art of the Line
Design-wise, we had a major challenge: how do we show power without cluttering the face? We know how much players value the "grit" and feel of their paddle, and we didn't want a heavy, edge-to-edge print to interfere with that.
We landed on using bold line art. By varying the thickness of the lines, we were able to create a design that felt heavy and aggressive but kept the overall look clean and intentional. If you look at the rails on the edges of the paddle, you’ll notice a hidden detail: the segmented lines are designed to resemble a temperature gauge rising, signaling that the game is heating up.
More Than Just Gear
The Inferno is a reflection of our journey as a team. We sourced high-performance materials and pushed the creative boundaries until we found something that felt "right." It’s built for the players who bring that same heat to the court every time they step behind the baseline.
We can’t wait to see these out on the courts. It’s been a wild ride getting this first design perfect, but now that the fire is lit, we’re just getting started.
